Department of Mining Engineering

 

Mining Engineering deals with the extraction of minerals safely by adopting scientific methods. While the conventional method was to extract coal or non-coal minerals from depth, technological changes have helped extract from opencast mines.  Today, over 95 percent of Indian coal is from opencast mines. The history of mining dates back to the Harappan civilization, and today digital technologies to mine from greater depths safely and efficiently. Safety is one of the primary objectives of teaching mining engineers who hold statutory positions to mine.

Mining engineering broadly covers various safety aspects of mining. It covers all technical and statutory aspects related to mine ventilation, mine planning and economics, mining machinery selection and operation, rock mechanics, design of opencast mines, mine surveying, computer applications, rock fragmentation, processing of blasted ore, sustainable mining methods, etc. The course is designed as per provision of Mines Act 1952 and various rules made under that.

GATE

Many students of Mining Department have cleared GATE with a good score. All the students who have cleared GATE got job in government sector with good pay scale. So far, more than 50 students got job in PSUs after clearing GATE. 

In 2023, 15 students of B Tech, Mining Engineering, cleared GATE with good score.

 

INDUSTRY TIE-UPS

AKS University is deeply involved in scientific research, particularly in the fields of rock blasting, mine safety, strata control, and slope stability. Their work ensures compliance with various regulatory bodies such as the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the Ministry of Mines (IBM), the National Green Tribunal, and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC). Additionally, the university undertakes initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity.

 

RECENT EVENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Almost every year, we arrange seminars in all parts of the country where eminent scientists and mining engineers are invited to present their papers. Several seminars on Mining have been organized since 2013 at Satna, Khajuraho, Ranchi, Asansol, Hospet, Bhubaneswar; New Delhi 2022: Mining Youth Conclave-New Delhi (Supported by Ministry of Coal, Govt. of India), AKS University Satna: Coal Expo, Mining Expo- 2023 and 2024 were held with active support on Ministry of Coal, PSUs and many more private sector Companies. Over 40 stalls displayed their products, mining practices, etc. The footfall in 2024 event was over 5000 people.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

 

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering and is called an evergreen branch because of the steady demand for mechanical engineers in industry.

Almost all the inventions of the ancient and modern eras are direct contributions of Mechanical Engineering. The branch caters to Automobiles, Railways, Aviation, Thermal Power Plants, Hydro Power Plants, Textiles, Petroleum, Chemicals, and a variety of other industries. It involves the design, study, development, and construction of nearly all physical devices and systems.

The Department along with its strong faculties provides an academic platform of international repute that is dedicated to train and build educated minds. We believe that besides learning from books and examples, learning practically help to achieve soundness of knowledge. With this view, the department operates with a prerogative of combining classroom teaching with the state-of-the-art laboratory facilities for all the subjects. Complete attention is paid towards the exercise of prudence and care in the management of resources to render basic and specialized engineering education necessary to keep pace with the present and emerging requirements of the society.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, AKS University, Satna runs Diploma, undergraduate and post-graduate programs in the form of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, B. Tech. and M. Tech.( Production, Industrial Engineering, Renewable energy, Thermal, Design ) along with Doctoral with its potent workforce of fifteen faculty members.

The Department promotes students to participate in competitions related to technology and innovation. Our undergraduate students are involved in research works on the development of several product prototypes. Noteworthy attempts include Development of electric arc machine, Ecart, Manufacturing of composites by waste plastic.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

The new B. Tech (EE) curriculum focuses on broad-based training to provide flexibility in career choices and nurture lifelong learning. It strikes a balance between breadth and depth to provide a solid foundation in physical sciences and broad coverage of non-technical areas on one hand, and comprehensive training in Electrical and Electronics Engineering on the other. In particular, the courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Business and Management together with other essential courses in Communication Skills, contribute about 20% of the overall curriculum. It emphasis on:

  • To increase the employment avenues for the students, the program is structured such that the core subjects offered are sufficient for higher studies.
  • Employment in the core sectors such as companies in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and other companies dealing with power components and systems.

RACE (Recent Advances in Civil Engineering)

This flagship annual technical seminar organized by the department has been a great success. Its first event was launched in 2015. The theme of the RACE 2015 (25th September to 26th September) was on various advance technologies and researches in civil engineering to which around 200 delegates attended.

RACE 2016 held during (24th September to 25th September) was attended by 100 plus delegates where technical papers on the main theme Smart Cities: Concept, Problem and Remedies were deliberated. Since 2015, the Department of Civil Engineering has been continuously participating/ organizing RACE.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering was established in the year 2012 at AKS University, Satna. Anything special-qualitative

The regular route for a student is a three-year B.Sc. course followed by a two-year M.Sc. program in Mathematics, after which she or he could join a doctoral program in a recognized university or research institution like TIFR in Mumbai, I M.Sc. in Chennai, HRI in Allahabad. Interestingly, all these are autonomous aided institutions that are fully supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) of the Government of India.

Department of Chemistry

Department of chemistry is a leading department under the faculty of basic science, established in 2015. Department has well equipped laboratory with all the necessary facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students and also for engineering students of other disciplines. In Chemistry research laboratory (CRL) of chemistry department, the experienced and qualified faculties are working to materialize research in forefront areas in physical, inorganic and organic chemistry.

 The faculty of Basic Sciences is performing under the leadership of Dr. R.S. Nigam as Dean.
